Season of Illuminations
The sun goes down, the lights come out

What comes to your mind when you think of Christmas? Perhaps its the idea of decorating the Christmas tree with your family, playing Michael Buble’s special Christmas playlist on loop in the background or maybe just a laid back time , spent sipping on some bubbly.
Christmas in Japan on the other hand is celebrated with special illumination light shows at prominent shopping areas, tucking into a Christmas cake and Kentucky Fried Chicken(yes, KFC has the best business at this time of the year.) Commonly a friends and couples affair, Christmas Day is not a national holiday in Japan but brands have been smart in making use of these opportunities by collaborating with shopping malls/ popular areas to sponsor the Christmas Illumination light up events that happens all around major cities in Japan. These events are usually held for a period of one to three months and they attract a large number of people. These events create a a hype on social sites as people share pictures and these promotes publicity. One of the very popular light up events happens in Omotesando (which we briefly talked about in our previous post, here).
Omotesando is the place to go if you are looking for find high end fashion brands such as Coach, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Celine, Moncler etc as they have their flagship stores centered in this area other than Ginza. As the bigger fashion players gather along the main streets of Aoyama Dori and Meiji Dori, smaller boutique brands are hidden at the back street areas of Ura Harajuku and Cat Street. Shoppers also find delight in the vintage and thrift stores that are in this area, almost every one seen in this area is clad in something fashionable. Nearby high end neighborhoods such as Aoyama, Roppongi, Hiroo, Ebisu and Gaienmae are just a stone’s throw away, making it easy for locals to satisfy their shopping needs here.
So , what sort of OOH medias are there in this area?

One of Kesion’s very own media which gives clients a one of a kind campaign, is our London Bus media. Clients can choose to wrap the bus and have it run along some of the popular designated routes in Tokyo, including Omotesando. In the past we have had clients who used the bus as a PR media, allowing passengers on the bus and bringing them on a sight-seeing tour, driving under the illuminated trees. This captures the attention of many people and attracts them to check out the event that the client is promoting. Check out some of the photos below!

The year end Christmas-New year season is such a jolly time to do campaigns as people are always in the festive mood and excited for the long holiday as they spend new years with their families.
